Chaman is a Mushwani Soumak Kilim from Herat in West Afghanistan. Soumak is a kind of flat weave that is a very strong and thick weave with a smooth face and rugged back. This rug is woven with soft wool and is very relaxed so would make a lovely throw or blanket as much as it would a rug.
