Afghan Saddle Bag—Camila
The Saddle Bag or "Yastik" was used as a means of transporting baggage & possessions. It was also important for a girl to weave a variety of bags for her dowry, so as a result they are often extremely well woven & finely detailed. Today, old tribal bags are becoming hard to find, but are keenly sought after as Collectors items. They can be decorative or stuffed to make beautiful floor cushions.
This is an antique double-faced Soumak bag from SW Afghanistan. Unusual piece that is still in excellent original condition.
