Asu is a Turkish vintage Oushak Rug. It is a gorgeous old piece that has lived a long life. Condition is very good but it does have wear in places which adds to its beauty. It has been overdyed from it's original colour and now has a soft cream field with subtle teal patterns throughout.
These Turkish carpets are from a particular family of designs, called by convention after the city of Uşak, Turkey – one of the larger towns in Western Anatolia. Usak was a major center of rug production from the early days of the Ottoman Empire, into the early 20th century.
Oushak rugs have been influenced by Persian design and often have floral motifs and large scale patterns.
