Afghan Kilim—Zalmay

$495

The Soufreh or 'Eating Cloth' was traditionally used on the floor as a table cloth on which plates of food were placed.

The design usually has a plain background containing a zig-zag motif. This particular soufreh has been woven in two parts, and subsequently joined together down the centre. It has been very finely woven and has beautiful earthy soft pink and brown tones. It was woven by the Baluchi Tribe of Adreskend in South Western Afghanistan.

Today, they make wonderful wall-hangings, however equally can be used as a floor rug. The square shape makes the soufreh a very versatile kilim.
