Afghan Runner—Adar

$1,150

Adar is an an Afghani runner that was woven by the Nomadic people of Tatari in Afghanistan.

The original function of this piece was a bag to carry goods on the back of an animal such as a donkey or camel. When the back of a saddle bag became badly worn, they were removed and split in two, the ornate front section was kept as a family heirloom or possible dowry. This piece has a combination of both kilim and knotted pile weaving. Its a beautiful collectors piece and would make an excellent feature runners.
