Saharat is a Kurdish Rah Rah rug.
Finely woven in tea-dyed wool, these attractive rugs are woven using Soumak technique. They originate from the Kerman area in Iran, but most are made by nomadic Kurds in N Iraq & SE Turkey. The name ‘rah rah’ means ‘road road’, this being a reference to the horizontal lines of the designs.
They are tightly woven and very hard wearing, especially suited to any heavy traffic areas such as entryways and hallways. Because of the colour palette & designs, rah-rahs combine happily with both kilims and knotted-pile rugs, hence making them extremely versatile.
