Caring for Your Organic Cotton Turkish Towels

Caring for Your Organic Cotton Turkish Towels

The superior quality of Turkish cotton is what gives the towels their super absorbent nature. The more they are washed, the softer, fluffier, and more absorbent they become. As these towels haven't been treated with harsh chemicals like other cotton towels, we recommend washing them a few times before use to break them in.

Caring for organic cotton Turkish towels is essential to ensure their longevity and maintain their softness and absorbency.

Here are some general care instructions:

  1. Washing
  • Gentle Cycle: Machine wash your Turkish towels in a gentle cycle with cold or warm water. Avoid using hot water, as it can damage the fibres and cause shrinkage.
  • Mild Detergent: Use a mild detergent that is free from harsh chemicals and additives. This helps to preserve the natural fibers and colors of the towel. Do not bleach. Bleach damages the cotton fibers of the towel, making it less absorbent and soft.
  • Avoid Fabric Softeners: Skip fabric softeners and bleach, as they can break down the natural fibers and reduce absorbency. Instead, use a cup of white vinegar during the rinse cycle to soften the towels and eliminate any detergent residues.
  • Spot treat stains
  • If your towels are still not very absorbent or have excess fluff after a few washes, we recommend the following:
Add 1 cup of plain white Vinegar to a warm rinse or wash cycle. If you have a top loader, dilute the vinegar first in a small bucket of water. After this wash has finished, add half a cup of bicarbonate of soda, following the instructions above. After the two washes, tumble dry the towels completely, and your towels should now be drying you much better.
  1. Drying
  • Air Dry: Whenever possible, air dry your Turkish towels. Hanging them in direct sunlight can help to naturally bleach and disinfect the fabric. This method also helps maintain the towel's shape and prevents shrinkage.
  • Low Heat in Dryer: If you choose to use a dryer, use a low heat setting. High heat can damage the fibers and reduce the towel's softness over time. Remove the towels from the dryer promptly to prevent wrinkles.

You'll notice that the tassels on our towels are all hand knotted, and therefore they may unravel when washed with other clothing. If a tassel unravels just split the tassel into two and twist them separately until they spiral together as one and tie a knot.
